Jen Dutra, a good friend (and also my next-door-neighbor from childhood) made this photo montage inspired by “Love Changes Everything. One of the songs from my new album, the chorus refers to an image in Mary Oliver’s poem “The Wild Geese”
“Meanwhile the wild geese, high in the clean blue air,
are heading home again.
Whoever you are, no matter how lonely,
the world offers itself to your imagination,
calls to you like the wild geese, harsh and exciting–
over and over announcing your place
in the family of things” from “The Wild Geese” by Mary Oliver
- “Love Changes Everything”
(words and music by Amy Correia
Correiatown Music, ASCAP, 2010) - You can run, you can run into these arms
You can love, you can have love if you want
When you see the beauty you are, you are
Love Changes Everything - You are young, you are young and brave of heart
Are you strong enough to let down your guard?
Can you stand up to it when your armor breaks apart
Love Changes EverythingGuides the wild geese in their flight,
Breaks the morning and uncovers night
turns weakness into might
and it makes you want to do what’s rightNight after night passes like a long slow train
I’m uncertain when we might see each other again
I put my heart into this simple refrain so you could hear me in it when I say Love Changes EverythingWhen darkness spreads out like a flag unfurled
You hear the trembling of this wild and naked world
Every voice out here, crying to be heard
and you heard my words, Love Changes EverythingGuides the wild geese in their flight
Breaks the morning and uncovers night
Turns weakness into might
& it makes me want to do what’s right
Holds me deep inside its sway,
bends the river on its way
to the ocean where we will lay,
side by side someday
At the helm it takes the wheel,
turns the tide & carries the keel
to safe harbor that’s what’s real
and in my arms I hope you will feel everythingLove Changes Everything, Everything.
